![]() On paper, however, the reviews for both Prey games are difficult to discern. Arkane created a game that was praised by critics and differentiated itself from the original game in almost every way. Not only did Prey fail to leave the shadow of its predecessor's commercial success, but it also struggled to outshine it at a critical level. In a far more competitive market on a much larger stage, it's considered a failure, and certainly not a success story such as Dishonored. 2017's Prey was aiming for higher sales but ended up doing about as well as the original. The original 2006 game, a commercial success from a relatively small developer, sold over a million copies. The game had a poor launch and relatively low sales numbers that did not reflect its positive scores, a stark contrast to the 2006 Prey. While the Prey reboot was generally well-received and even nominated for various Game of The Year awards, it didn't sell very well compared to Arkane's previous work. They spearheaded Prey to an admirable start, but it looks as though hopes for a sequel may be dashed. After Prey 2 fell apart and the rights to the series passed to Bethesda, a full reboot released in 2017 under the watchful eye of Dishonored developer Arkane Studios. ![]() ![]() The original 2006 Prey was praised for its gameplay and graphics, enough so that a sequel was confirmed. ![]()
